Our Mission : Food, Education, Medicine
Brothers and sisters, today’s readings draw us into the quiet, steady heartbeat of the Christian life: we belong to God. Not by accident, not by merit, not by our own strength, but because God, in love, has chosen us in Christ and sealed us with the Holy Spirit.
Saint Paul tells the Ephesians that “in Christ we were also chosen… destined… so that we might exist for the praise of his glory.” These words remind us that our identity is not something we build; it is something we receive. Before we ever lifted a finger, God desired us. Before we ever said a prayer, God called us. Before we ever understood faith, God marked us with the Spirit as His own possession.
The Psalm says: “Blessed the people the Lord has chosen to be his own.” Blessed, not because life is easy, not because we are perfect, but because God’s gaze rests upon us with tenderness. The Lord looks down from heaven and sees all humanity, but His eyes linger with love on those who place their hope in Him.
And then Jesus, in the Gospel, speaks directly to our fears. He warns against hypocrisy, the temptation to live a double life, to hide behind masks. But He also reassures us with one of the most intimate images in Scripture: “Even the hairs of your head have all been counted.” God’s knowledge of us is not distant or abstract. It is personal, detailed, affectionate. If He notices sparrows sold for pennies, how much more does He notice you and I, whom He has chosen and sealed with His Spirit?
This is why Jesus says, “Do not be afraid.”
Not because danger is unreal.
Not because suffering is imaginary.
But because nothing can undo the love with which God has claimed us.
To be chosen in Christ means our life has purpose.
To be sealed in the Spirit means our future is secure.
To be loved by the Father means we never walk alone.
So today, let us live as people who know they belong, people who trust that God sees, God remembers, God protects, and God guides. Let us exist, as Paul says, “for the praise of His glory,” confident that the One who chose us will never abandon us.
