“Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord.”

The vision of Ezekiel is a powerful message of hope: “Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord.” What appears dead, hopeless, and beyond restoration is not beyond God’s power. The bones come together, flesh returns, but life comes only when the Spirit of God breathes upon them. God is telling His people: “I will put my spirit in you that you may live.” There are moments when our faith, families, communities, or even our own hearts can feel like dry bones, tired, discouraged, wounded, or without direction. Yet God does not abandon what appears lifeless. His Word can gather what has been scattered, and His Spirit can restore what has been broken. The Psalm reminds us: “Give thanks to the Lord; his love is everlasting.” God’s mercy is always greater than our weakness. Jesus shows us where this renewed life must lead: love of God and love of neighbor. We cannot claim to be filled with the Spirit while allowing hatred, resentment, division, or indifference to control our relationships. The Spirit who gives life also gives us the capacity to love. As we celebrate Saint Pius X, Pope, we remember a shepherd deeply committed to renewing the Church and bringing Christ closer to the faithful, especially through the Eucharist. His life reminds us that renewal begins with a heart centered on Christ. Today, let us pray: “Come, Holy Spirit, breathe upon every dry bone in my life. Restore my hope, renew my faith, and teach me to love God completely and my neighbor generously.” Where God’s Spirit is welcomed, dead things can live again, broken things can be restored, and weary hearts can begin again.
