Jesus knows the Father and He can take us to Him.

One of the deepest desires of every human heart is to know God. We search for Him in success, knowledge, relationships, and achievements, yet many still feel empty because God cannot be fully known by human effort alone. In today's Gospel, Jesus reveals a profound truth: "No one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him." Jesus is not merely a teacher who speaks about God; He is the Son who knows the Father perfectly and alone can lead us into an intimate relationship with Him. This truth is beautifully reflected in the life of Saint Bonaventure, one of the greatest theologians and spiritual writers of the Church. He believed that true wisdom is not simply the accumulation of knowledge but a loving encounter with God through Christ. For Bonaventure, the mind reaches its highest fulfillment only when it is united with God in love. That is why he insisted that humility, prayer, and holiness are greater than intellectual brilliance. A person may know many things about God yet never truly know God. The childlike heart that Jesus praises is the heart that trusts, listens, and surrenders. The first reading presents a striking contrast. Assyria became proud of its strength, imagining that its victories came solely from its own wisdom and power. God asks, "Will the axe boast against him who hews with it?" The instrument forgot the One who held it. Pride always creates the illusion of self-sufficiency. It blinds us to the fact that every gift, talent, and success comes from God. This temptation has not disappeared. We can easily begin to rely on our education, influence, wealth, ministry, or abilities while forgetting the Giver of every blessing. We may become experts in religion yet strangers to God. Jesus reminds us that the Father is revealed not to the proud but to the humble. The more we empty ourselves of pride, the more room we make for God's grace. The Responsorial Psalm assures us that "The Lord will not abandon his people." Even when evil seems to triumph, God remains faithful. He sees the suffering of His children, hears their cries, and acts with justice. The Father whom Jesus reveals is not distant or indifferent. He is a loving Father who never abandons those who trust in Him. As we celebrate Saint Bonaventure today, we are invited to seek not only knowledge about God but communion with Him. Every Eucharist, every moment of prayer, every reading of Scripture is an invitation from Jesus to know the Father's heart more deeply. Christ alone is the way to the Father. The closer we remain to Jesus through faith, prayer, and obedience, the more we discover the Father's infinite love and mercy. May we never allow pride to become a barrier between us and God. Instead, let us cultivate the simplicity of little children, trusting Jesus to lead us each day into the heart of the Father.
