Scripture Verse

Feast of Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, Archangels
Readings: Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14/Psalm 138/John 1:47-51
Today’s readings invite us to look beyond what we can see and to join the angels in praising God. Daniel’s vision shows countless heavenly ministers gathered before the Ancient One. Yet the center of the vision is the Son of Man, who receives an everlasting kingdom. The angels’ praise points us toward God, whose reign endures. In the Gospel, Jesus promises Nathanael that he will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man. Jesus is the meeting place of heaven and earth. In him, God draws near to us; through him, our lives are opened to God. The archangels help us remember this closeness. Michael reminds us that evil does not have the final word: God is our strength. Gabriel announces God’s good news and invites us to receive it with trust. Raphael accompanies and heals, showing God’s care along the journey. Their different missions share one purpose: to serve God and lead us toward him. Psalm 138 gives us our response: “In the sight of the angels I will sing your praises, Lord.” We join that praise not only with our voices, but by living with courage, carrying good news, offering care, and giving thanks. We may not see the heavenly hosts, but we can trust that God hears us, strengthens us, and is at work among us. Today, let us lift our hearts with the angels. May our words and actions give glory to God, whose kingdom lasts forever.
