Scripture Verse
Saturday of the Twenty-Sixth Week in Ordinary TimeReadings: Job 42:1-3, 5-6, 12-17/Psalm 119/Luke 10:17-24
Job’s words mark a profound change: “I had heard of you by word of mouth, but now my eye has seen you.” After enduring great suffering, Job does not receive an explanation for everything he has faced. He encounters God more deeply. His story reminds us that faith does not require us to understand every hardship. We can bring our questions and grief to God and trust that he remains with us.
The psalm gives us a fitting prayer: “Lord, let your face shine on me.” The psalmist asks for wisdom and light, trusting that God’s word will guide him. In difficult times, we can make this prayer our own: Lord, help me recognize your presence and show me the way forward.
In the Gospel, the disciples return rejoicing because their mission has been successful. Jesus directs their joy toward something deeper: “Rejoice because your names are written in heaven.” Our greatest joy is not in what we accomplish, but in knowing that we belong to God and are loved by him.
Jesus praises the Father for revealing the mysteries of the Kingdom to the childlike. This does not mean we should stop asking questions. Job asked many. Childlike faith means approaching God with humility and trust, ready to listen and receive.
Jesus makes the Father known through his compassion, forgiveness, and faithful love. We are blessed to see and hear the Good News. Even when God seems hidden, he continues to draw near through prayer, Scripture, the sacraments, and the kindness of others.
Let us ask for the grace to trust God in what we do not understand, rejoice that we belong to him, and share his love with others.
