Our Mission : Food, Education, Medicine
The early Church faced a serious debate: Should the Gentiles become like the Jews before fully belonging to Christ? Some believed they had to carry the burden of the old law before receiving the grace of salvation. But Peter stood up and reminded everyone of a powerful truth: God knows the heart. God Himself gave the Holy Spirit to the Gentiles just as He gave the Spirit to the Jews. He made no distinction between them.
This moment reveals the wideness of God’s mercy and love. Human beings often create divisions based on culture, race, background, status, or past mistakes. We try sometimes to decide who is “worthy” of God and who is not. But God looks beyond outward appearances and sees the heart. The Holy Spirit is not a reward for perfection; the Spirit is a gift of grace given to those who open themselves in faith.
Many people today still feel excluded, from the Church, from society, or even from God’s love because of their past, weaknesses, or failures. Yet today’s readings remind us that God never denies His Spirit to those who sincerely seek Him. God desires salvation for all nations and all peoples. That is why the Psalm proclaims: “Proclaim God’s marvelous deeds to all the nations.”
In the Gospel, Jesus invites us to “remain” in His love. The Holy Spirit helps us remain connected to Christ. When we keep His commandments, especially the commandment of love, we experience the joy of God within us. True Christian joy comes not from judging others or building barriers, but from welcoming people into the love of Christ.
As followers of Jesus, we are called to imitate the openness of the early Church. We must avoid becoming obstacles to others who are trying to come closer to God. Instead, we should become instruments through which others encounter mercy, encouragement, healing, and the presence of the Holy Spirit.
May we never limit whom God can touch, forgive, or transform. The same Spirit who worked in the apostles continues to work today in every heart that seeks the Lord with faith.
