Our Mission : Food, Education, Medicine
The first reading presents a very human situation in the early Church, complaints, tension, and feelings of neglect. Yet, instead of allowing division to grow, the Apostles respond with wisdom and structure. They recognize that both service and prayer matter, but each requires proper attention. By appointing men like Stephen, filled with the Spirit, they ensure that no one is overlooked.
What follows is important: “The word of God continued to spread.” When things are done in the right spirit and order, growth follows. This reminds us that God works not in confusion, but in harmony. When we trust Him enough to organize our lives, share responsibilities, and act with fairness, His grace multiplies the mission.
In the Gospel, we encounter a different kind of chaos, the storm at sea. The disciples are struggling in darkness, with strong winds against them. Then Jesus comes, walking on the water. Their first reaction is fear. But His words cut through everything: “It is I. Do not be afraid.”
This is the heart of the message. Whether it is external storms or internal struggles, fear often takes over when we feel alone or uncertain. But Jesus approaches us precisely in those moments. He does not always calm the storm immediately, but His presence changes everything. The moment they receive Him, they arrive safely at their destination.
Both readings speak to our lives today. We face confusion, responsibilities, and moments of fear. Sometimes things feel disorganized, or we feel overwhelmed by what is happening around us. But God invites us to trust Him, by doing our part faithfully and by recognizing His presence even in the storm.
So, the question for us is:
Do we allow fear and disorder to control us, or do we trust God enough to bring Him into the situation?
When we do, we discover that He not only guides us through the storm but also leads us safely to where we are meant to be.
